Free counselling for social care workers Southampton

We've launched a new completely free support service for frontline social care workers in Southampton, whose mental health and wellbeing have been affected by their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Addictions

Answers to frequently asked questions

What is counselling and how will it help me?

Counselling offers you a safe, confidential place to talk about your life and anything that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. It allows you to talk with someone who is trained to listen attentively and to help you improve things. A counsellor will not tell you what to do or judge you, but always try to understand things from your point of view, and support you to find your own answers.

Does counselling and therapy work?

Different people will get different results from their therapy experience. Recent studies from the International Centre for Clinical Excellence showed that 80% of clients in Counselling and Therapy end up better off than those who didn’t seek help.

How much does it cost?

Assessment £30

Prices for 1:1 counselling start from £40 for face to face or online sessions (50 mins).

Counselling fee payment plan*:

6 sessions £200 (pay for 5 get one free)

12 sessions £400 (pay for 10 get two free)

*Fee payment plans require payment in advance and are non-refundable if sessions are not used, however any unused sessions will be ‘banked’ for a period of a year

Prices for Couples counselling sessions start from £60 per couple per hour for face to face or online sessions.

I am unable to pay full cost for services, is there any support available for me?

Options Wellbeing has been providing affordable counselling to communities across Southern England for over 50 years. Our goal is to make our rates affordable and services accessible to everyone. If you aren’t able to afford the full rate (as described above), then we offer discounted rates, available on a case by case basis, dependent on your individual financial circumstances.

Importantly, as a charity, your fees helps us to keep the service running at Options, and it also shows value in the counselling process you enter into.

If you are in receipt of benefits* we offer a discounted rate:

Initial Assessment -  £10.00                                 

Counselling per session - £10.00

* Universal Credit, Job Seekers Allowance, Housing Benefit, Discounted Council Tax-sight of document to be shown to Options staff required

If these discounted rates are still unachievable we can make an application to the SCiA Action fund to top up the fees you can afford and pay.  However, this may cause a delay to entering the service due to the time the process takes for an outcome to be agreed.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes, absolutely! Since the COVID pandemic began, we have been offering our services online, as well as over the phone.

If you prefer to have your sessions face-to-face we are now able to offer this again at our venues in Bournemouth and Southampton.

Come and join our topic-based group sessions with other people in similar situations. We work with you face to face or online in a small group environment (up to six people) to develop techniques that help to manage your wellbeing effectively.
