New Peer Support Network for people with Eating Difficulties and their Carers

Options Wellbeing Receives Grant from Dorset Community Foundation and NHS Dorset to Establish New Peer Support Network for people with Eating Difficulties and their Carers.

Options Wellbeing, a leading mental health and community support charity, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a two-year grant from the Community Wellbeing & Mental Health Fund by the Dorset Community Foundation and NHS Dorset. This grant will support the establishment of a new Peer Support Network for individuals aged 18 and above facing Eating Difficulties and their carers in the Dorset, Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole regions.

Building upon the success of the existing Peer Support Network for people with Eating Difficulties and their carers in Southampton & Hampshire, this initiative aims to provide a vital support system for individuals with eating disorders and disordered eating as well as their caregivers or supporters. The funding will specifically support the creation of an innovative online program accessible to all individuals in Dorset facing eating difficulties.

“Funding will support a new Eating Difficulties Peer Support Network to take place in Dorset, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole  together with their carers and supporters with an online programme for all individuals with an eating difficulty in the county and BCP council to access,” said Wendy Lee, Head of Health and Wellbeing at Options Wellbeing. “There will be an in-person group held in our facilities in Bournemouth. However, the remote elements will also include supportive interactions in our online closed Facebook group, as well as community-based buddy support provided by dedicated volunteer peer supporters. The project will be coordinated, managed, and monitored by our experienced team to ensure its effectiveness and impact.”

The new Peer Support Network will serve as an extension of Options Wellbeing’s commitment to fostering mental health and wellbeing within the community. By providing a safe space for individuals to share experiences, access resources, and receive support from peers and professionals alike.
